Oxford has a good selection of hotels, inns and guesthouses to cater for the steady stream of tourists passing through. As a university town it also has a good infrastructure of dormitory accomodation and shared apartments. In addition to residences at the various colleges, there are plenty of independent options.

Student Accommodation

Students can stay at any the 39 teaching colleges that the university operates. Aside from providing meals and lodging, these colleges also provide pastoral and scholastic care outside the classroom.

Magdalen College was established as Magdalen Hall in 1448. It has sporting facilities such as multipurpose courts for tennis, netball, and basketball; pitches for football and rugby; and squash courts. The college features five libraries, an information technology centre, and the Austin Gill Room, which is a state-of-the-art audiovisual facility.

St. Anne's College began in 1952 as an all-female college, but it has since expanded to a coed one. Its main dining hall serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and hosts the High Dinner twice in a term. The college has its own music and drama societies and sporting facilities for football, hockey, and rowing.

With a history spanning almost 700 years, Exeter is arguably Oxford's most famous college. It was home to many heads of state while they were students at the university. It has a library, a computer room, and a main dining hall that serves three meals a day on regular days. The main dining hall also hosts a regular High Table dinner, when students in their academic gowns are introduced to the senior members of the college.
